Changes to the brand of Xantrex, Elgar, and Sorensen: AMETEK

Recently, Xantrex Technology Inc. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Schneider Electric. Xantrex is a world leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of renewable power, programmable/lab power, and mobile power products. As a condition to the sale of Xantrex to Schneider Electric, Xantrex will divest its programmable power business. Xantrex also announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of its programmable power business to AMETEK, Inc.

Xantrex's programmable power division is highly complementary to AMETEK's Power Instruments business, considering the amount of quality products that they have to offer. In 2007, Xantrex acquired Elgar Electronics of San Diego. Elgar's product line included AC-to-DC bench and system power supplies and AC-to-AC system power supplies. They also manufactured electronic loads, all of which became a part of Xantrex upon acquisition of the company. In 2004, Before Elgar became a part of Xantrex, Elgar acquired Sorensen, a company with over 50 years of leadership in manufacturing reliable DC power supplies. Even earlier than that, in 1998, Power Ten became a part of Elgar.

What does this mean to customers of programmable power or lab power?

As a result of the activity involving AMETEK, Xantrex, Elgar, Sorensen, and Power Ten, the business of programmable power, including AC-to-DC bench and system power supplies, AC-to-AC system power supplies, and electronic loads, will now be re-branded as AMETEK.
